Rebrand, Reuse, Recycle: Marketing for Reusable Products

As awareness of environmental issues grows, so does the demand for sustainable products. More consumers are looking for ways to reduce their ecological footprint, and businesses that prioritize reusability are stepping into the spotlight. However, the success of reusable products, such as refillable containers and sustainable packaging, depends not only on their design and functionality but also on how they are marketed. Here’s how brands can craft compelling marketing strategies to promote reusable products while emphasizing their environmental and financial benefits.

1. Emphasize the Environmental Impact

One of the most compelling reasons to switch to reusable products is their positive impact on the environment. Your marketing should clearly communicate how these products help reduce waste, conserve valuable resources, and lower carbon footprints. For instance, highlight how a single reusable water bottle can replace hundreds of single-use plastic bottles over its lifetime. Use data, statistics, and visuals to illustrate these benefits—such as infographics showing the cumulative impact of using reusable items. Making these benefits easy to understand and visually appealing will help consumers grasp the real difference they can make by choosing reusable products.

Exploring Design Workshop’s Houston Projects

I recently had the opportunity to embark on another exciting work trip with Design Workshop, this time to our Houston Studio along side members from the Austin Studio. It was a fantastic experience filled with project discussions, site visits, and connecting with colleagues face-to-face.

Day 1 at Design Workshop Houston Studio

I kicked off my trip to Houston with a full day of productive meetings and discussions about our ongoing projects. It was great to collaborate with my colleagues in person, and the energy in the studio was palpable. Despite the Texas heat, the day was filled with insights from a local site tour of Midtown Park followed by a cross-studio outing at The Rustic.

Texas Disposal Systems Works

In my role as the first-ever Digital Marketing Coordinator at Texas Disposal Systems (TDS) and I played a vital role in developing and executing various marketing initiatives emphasizing sustainability and waste management practices. From redesigning key webpages and crafting targeted email drip campaigns to managing content campaigns and spearheading creative recycling promotions, my work at TDS was multifaceted and impactful. I also contributed to several community-oriented projects, including Earth Day campaigns, interactive recycling games at events, and seasonal holiday waste initiatives. Additionally, I supported the company’s sales department efforts by creating new sales materials and improving online customer funnels. Through these initiatives, I helped position TDS as a leader in the waste management industry in Central Texas while reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship and resource conservation.

Waste Wizard Promotion:

  • Promoted the “Waste Wizard,” a versatile app designed to remind customers of waste collection schedules and educate them on proper waste disposal practices. To increase app downloads, I introduced gift card incentive contests, effectively encouraging customer participation, increasing downloads, and reinforcing the brand. Facebook Post

Conference Vendor/Boothing:

  • Represented TDS at industry conferences by staffing booths, distributing marketing materials, and engaging in conversations with attendees about the company’s services and sustainable practices, helping to enhance the brand and fostering potential business relationships.

Fiesta San Antonio 2022

My company, Texas Disposal Systems, supplied the portable restrooms and fencing for Fiesta in San Antonio. The festival provided TDS employees with free tickets and a VIP table for NIOSA (Night in Old San Antonio). I went with the marketing department as part of team bonding.

This was my first time attending Fiesta in San Antonio. I was taken back by the scale of the event. We made our way over to the VIP tables to watch the annual float parade. However, the festival incorporated the entire city!

Rodeo Austin and Waste Wrangling

This was my first experience at Rodeo Austin. My fairground passes were free through my job at Texas Disposal Systems, since we were a major partner offering waste and site services. The site services being restroom units and trailers, along with handwashing stations. I did not attend the official rodeo events, but I did enjoy the carnival foods, exhibition shows, and livestock competition judging. I also took photos of the restrooms and handwashing stations to use for social media, webpages, and general sales materials.

Check out this short commercial about the 2022 Rodeo Austin event. See highlights from the live music concerts, rodeo competition events, carnival attraction rides, and fun livestock interactions!

TDS Christmas Tree-cycling and Wreaths Across America

Texas Disposal Systems offers holiday-related organics processing under two major programs: (1) Christmas Tree Recycling and (2) Wreaths Across America support.

Every year TDS opens up their facilities for free Tree Recycling and holiday organic waste disposal. This includes live Christmas Trees and wreaths, as well as any left over pumpkins. Residents can visit their regional facility or the main landfill in Creedmoor to drop off their trees and organics. From there, we process the trees through chippers into high-quality, rich products like mulch or compost. These products are sold via the Garden-Ville retail centers back into the local community.
