I’ve been actively participating in some exciting networking events with SMPS (Society for Marketing Professional Services) here in Austin. These gatherings have been invaluable for connecting with fellow professionals in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry. Here’s a glimpse into my recent experiences:
Western Chic Networking Event
August 8, 2023 – Last night, I attended a professional networking event with fellow marketers from my field. The theme was Western Chic attire, and let’s just say the Texas heat didn’t quite forgive my choice of jeans! Despite that, I had a fantastic time connecting with a diverse group of professionals and expanding my network.
Industry Luncheon with the Mayor
September 13, 2023 – Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending an SMPS industry luncheon where we heard from the mayor about Austin’s growing pains based on recent surveys and studies. It was insightful to learn about the city’s development challenges directly from local leadership and to discuss potential solutions with colleagues in the AEC community.
SMPS Networking at Lazarus Brewery
September 21, 2023 – I attended another SMPS industry networking event at Lazarus Brewery. It was my first time at this venue, and despite the Texas heat lingering, I enjoyed engaging with fellow service professionals in a relaxed setting. The conversations were enriching, and I look forward to returning to Lazarus Brewery when the weather cools down.
MEGA Mixer with Related Organizations
October 19, 2023 – Today was particularly exciting as I attended a MEGA mixer hosted by SMPS Austin, bringing together professionals from various related organizations. It was inspiring to see such a large turnout and to connect with familiar faces while meeting new contacts. The event surpassed my expectations, demonstrating the strength of our professional community here in Austin.
Reflecting on Networking Success
Participating in SMPS events has been instrumental in expanding my professional network and gaining insights into industry trends and challenges. These opportunities not only enhance my knowledge but also foster meaningful connections that contribute to personal and career growth.
Thank you to everyone who makes these events possible, and I look forward to continuing to engage with SMPS and the AEC community in Austin.
Best regards,
Taylor Scott Nelson
