I’m thrilled to share that I’ve been selected to participate in the DJourneys Green Groups Pilot Test, an initiative designed to support green job seekers like myself. Organized by Daniel González, this program brings together small groups of 4-6 professionals who are looking to transition into or advance within the green industry.
What Are Green Groups?
The Green Groups concept is built around the book “Never Search Alone” by Phyl Terry, which emphasizes the power of Job Search Councils—small, structured groups that provide accountability, emotional support, and networking opportunities. Job searching can often feel isolating, but with a strong community, we can navigate the process together, share insights, and open doors to new opportunities.
Why This Matters
Through my career journey, I’ve realized that searching for a job in the sustainability space isn’t just about sending out resumes. It’s about building relationships, refining your career goals, and staying motivated despite the ups and downs of the process. The DJourneys Green Groups initiative provides the structure and camaraderie needed to do exactly that.
Daniel González has extensive experience working with climate-focused teams at organizations like Google, WRI, and Yale, and he’s spoken with 300+ professionals transitioning into the climate sector. From his experience, he’s seen firsthand that job searching isn’t just about skills—it’s about managing energy, identifying must-haves, and negotiating for what truly matters in a role. This program is designed to help participants achieve all of these goals with the help of a dedicated group.
Our Green Group Kickoff
Our group officially kicked off on March 21, where we introduced ourselves and drafted our group charter—a shared agreement outlining how we will support each other throughout this journey. Having a solid foundation and a clear roadmap will be key in making the most of this experience.
A Growing Movement
Daniel’s vision for Green Groups is clear: job searching doesn’t have to be a solo journey. The early stats from applicants show the diversity and depth of talent in the green job market:
- 70% have advanced degrees
- 25% have 10+ years of work experience
- 28% are completely new to the green industry
- Top skills include project management, data analysis, consulting, and presentations
- Interest areas range from climate adaptation, circular economy, and energy systems to ESG standards and reporting
This data confirms what I’ve long believed—there is a huge, growing movement of professionals eager to make an impact in sustainability, and I’m excited to be part of it.
Looking Ahead
Over the coming weeks and months, I’ll be working closely with my Green Group to refine my job search strategy, build connections, and support my fellow members in their journeys. With the guidance of Daniel González and the structured approach from Never Search Alone, I’m confident this experience will be transformative.
For anyone out there currently searching for a green job—you’re not alone. If this initiative continues beyond the pilot, I highly recommend looking into it!
Stay tuned for updates as I embark on this journey, and feel free to reach out if you want to connect on all things green jobs, sustainability, and marketing!
